The Stanford Cardinal will host the William & Mary Tribe in 2020, the two schools announced on Thursday.
Stanford and William & Mary will square off on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
William & Mary is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). So far in 2017, the Tribe are 2-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The addition of William & Mary tentatively completes Stanford’s non-conference schedule for the 2020 season. The Cardinal are also slated to travel to Notre Dame on Oct. 10 and host BYU to close out the regular-season on Nov. 28.
William & Mary is Stanford’s first schedule game against an FCS opponent since the Cardinal defeated UC Davis in 2014.
Football Schedules
Stanford vs William & Mary might be the unlikeliest matchup I have ever seen. What a weird one!
They’re both academically elite. Those types of schools like to play each other. Stanford-Rice, Duke-Northwestern, etc. W&M allegedly is harder for in-state students to be accepted into than UVA is.
brilliant observation!
Stanford played Cornell in 1991.
Stanford should never stoop to playing FCS schools.
Down go the Cardinals! W&M to employ the particle accelerator offense. W&M will also confuse them by calling out math formulas at the line of scrimmage.
