The New Mexico State Aggies and the Northern Illinois Huskies have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2024 and 2027, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the contract was obtained from New Mexico State University via a state public records request.
In the first game of the series, New Mexico State will host Northern Illinois at Aggie Memorial Stadium in La Cruces, N.M., on Sept. 14, 2024. The series will conclude three seasons later with the Aggies traveling to take on the Huskies at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Ill., on Sept. 11, 2027.
New Mexico State and Northern Illinois first met on the gridiron in 1968 and have played a total of three contests. In their most recent matchup in 1994, the Huskies defeated the Aggies 48-27, but New Mexico State still leads the overall series 2-1.
The addition of the series with Northern Illinois gives New Mexico State eight scheduled contests in 2024. Other opponents for New Mexico State in 2024 include Hawaii, Louisiana, and New Mexico at home and Wyoming, Fresno State, Texas A&M, and UTEP on the road.
The Huskies are the second scheduled opponent for New Mexico State in 2027, joining a contest at New Mexico.
Northern Illinois now has three scheduled non-conference opponents for both 2024 and 2027. Other contests scheduled include at Notre Dame and vs. UMass in 2024 and at Nebraska and vs. USF in 2027.
Based on their scheduling practices, Northern Illinois’ fourth and final non-conference opponent each season will likely be a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team.
