The 2026 ACC football schedule has been officially announced. The season kicks off in Week Zero on Saturday, Aug. 29 with five teams in action.
The 2026 ACC football season will be the third for the league as a 17-team conference and first with a partial nine-game conference football schedule. 12 of the 17 members will play nine conference games this season, and that number will expand the following season.
Featured 2026 non-conference match-ups for each ACC school include Boston College at Notre Dame, UCLA at California, Clemson at LSU, Duke at Illinois, Florida State at Alabama, Georgia Tech at Georgia, Louisville vs. Ole Miss (in Nashville, TN), Miami at Notre Dame, NC State at Vanderbilt, Notre Dame at North Carolina, UCF at Pitt, SMU at Notre Dame, Stanford at Notre Dame, Notre Dame at Syracuse, Virginia vs. West Virginia (in Charlotte, NC), Virginia Tech at Maryland, and Wake Forest at Purdue.
The 2026 ACC Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The game will kickoff at noon ET on ABC.

Why won’t they put Stanford vs Cal on Thanksgiving weekend?
Got another one who had very high hopes for Stanford-California however at least Syracuse hosting Notre Dame will be playing on Thanksgiving rivalry weekend & either Saturday or Black Friday would be nice for Notre Dame-Syracuse.
It has long been played on the 3rd Saturday in November as was USC v UCLA. Then Cal would play UCLA Thanksgiving weekend and either USC or Stanford would host Notre Dame.

I agree, Cal-Stanford should move to Thanksgiving weekend, just like USC-UCLA has. I’d also make Miami-Notre Dame an annual matchup and have that on Thanksgiving weekend as well. Then have Pitt-Syracuse-Boston College-SMU rotate with each other on that weekend. If ACC is against making Miami-Notre Dame an annual game, add them to the Pitt-Syracuse-Boston College-SMU rotation.

Cal and Stanford have traditionally had several events during the week prior to the Big Game, a few of them joint events, many of them separate events for the respective school’s alumni. Those events either couldn’t take place or would be very poorly attended if the game was played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the week leading up to the game was, obviously, Thanksgiving week. So they play the game on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Will the two schools eventually throw this tradition into the trash can? Eventually, probably so, given that almost every other college football tradition has been destroyed or crapped on in the last 20 years. But not yet.

The easiest, and smartest solution, to the ACC’s 9-game scheduling problem with 17 schools in the conference is to have the 5 games against Notre Dame that is part of the ACC-Notre Dame agreement count as conference games. Those 5 schools that play Notre Dame as part of the ACC-Notre Dame agreement would play 8 additional ACC conference games, while the other 12 schools play 9 conference games. That is a mathematical solution to the scheduling problem. During the 1950s and 1960s some SEC teams had games against teams outside the SEC count as conference games. The 1958 Ole Miss 56-7 win over Houston is an example
