The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Memphis Tigers have scheduled a four-game football series, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has reported.
The series will kick off at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis on Sept. 5, 2020 and will return there on Sept. 3, 2022. Arkansas State will host Memphis at Centennial Bank Stadium in Jonesboro on Sept. 11, 2021 and again on Sept. 9, 2023.
Arkansas State and Memphis have met a total of 59 times on the gridiron since 1914. The Tigers lead the overall series 30-24-5 and won the most recent meeting 31-7 at home in 2013.
“It’s probably the most talked about and popular opponent when it comes to scheduling,” A-State Athletic Director Terry Mohajir told the Democrat-Gazette. “I think it’s good for their fan base; I think it’s good for our fan base. It’s a really good regional matchup.”
Memphis is the first announced non-conference opponent for Arkansas State for each season from 2021 through 2023. In 2020, the Red Wolves are also scheduled to host Tulsa on Sept. 19.
The Tigers now have two non-conference games scheduled for 2020, 2022, and 2023 and three in 2021. Memphis has home-and-home’s slated with UTSA (2020-21) and Mississippi State (2021-22) and is set to host Missouri in 2023.
