Washington State to host Idaho in 2022, Northern Colorado in 2023

The Washington State Cougars have added games against the Idaho Vandals and the Northern Colorado Bears to their future football schedules, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Copies of contracts for both games were obtained from Washington State University via a state public records request.

Washington State will host the Idaho Vandals at Martin Stadium in Pullman on Sept. 3, 2022. WSU will pay Idaho a $575,000 guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract.

Idaho is also scheduled to play at Washington State on Sept. 19, 2020 and Aug. 30, 2025. We reported the 2025 contest last March and the 2020 contest back in August 2016.

Washington State and Idaho, separated by only about eight miles, have a long history on the gridiron. The two schools first met in 1894 and have played a total of 92 games. The Cougars won the most recent meeting 56-6 in 2016 and lead the overall series 72-17-3.

The Northern Colorado Bears will make the trip to Pullman to take on Washington State on Sept. 16, 2023. The Bears will receive a $525,000 guarantee for the game, per the contract copy.

Washington State and Northern Colorado have never squared off on the football field.

The addition of games against Idaho and Northern Colorado tentatively completes Washington State’s non-conference schedule through the 2023 season. Other games scheduled for 2022 include at trip to face Wisconsin on Sept. 10 and a home contest against Colorado State on Sept. 17.

Washington State is slated to kick off the 2023 season at Colorado State on Sept. 2 before hosting Wisconsin on Sept. 9, followed by the newly added Northern Colorado contest.

Idaho has now tentatively completed their non-conference schedule for the 2022 season. The Vandals are also scheduled to play at Indiana on Sept. 10 and at Old Dominion, but the ODU game was scheduled prior to Idaho’s move down to the FCS and could eventually be canceled.

Washington State is Northern Colorado’s first known non-conference opponent for the 2023 season.
