The North Carolina A&T Aggies and the North Carolina Central Eagles have scheduled a 10-game, home-and-home football series, both schools announced.
North Carolina A&T and NC Central are both current members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), but the Aggies are leaving to join the Big South Conference effective July 1, 2021. This series ensures that the two rivals will meet on the gridiron for the next ten seasons.
“I know there have been some concerns about whether this great tradition of North Carolina A&T meeting North Carolina Central on the gridiron would continue with our move to a new conference this fall,” said N.C. A&T Director of Athletics Earl Hilton. “I am glad to say that tradition is going nowhere. Our fans look forward to this game each year. Aggies have a lot of friends and family who are Eagles and Eagles have a lot of friends and family who are Aggies. It is truly a family feud.”
The series will begin with North Carolina A&T hosting NC Central at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., on Sept. 25, 2021. The Aggies will also host the Eagles in odd seasons through 2029.
North Carolina Central will host North Carolina A&T at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham, N.C., on Sept. 3, 2022 and then each even year through 2030.
“I want to thank our colleagues at North Carolina A&T State University for partnering with us on this agreement,” said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree. “This game is one of the highlights of every football season for our student-athletes, alumni and fans, so we are excited to be able to guarantee that we will meet our in-state rival on the gridiron for the next 10 years.”
North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central are scheduled to play their final two games as MEAC foes this spring. North Carolina A&T will host NCCU on Saturday, March 6, 2021 before the in-season home-and-home series concludes on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at NCCU.
