Morehead State to play at James Madison in 2023

The Morehead State Eagles will play at the James Madison Dukes in 2023, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Morehead State will travel to take on James Madison at Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Sept. 9, 2023. The Dukes will pay the Eagles a $150,000 guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract obtained from Morehead State University via a state public records request.

Morehead State, a member of the Pioneer Football League, and James Madison, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, first met on the gridiron in 1979 and have played nine times overall. In their most recent meeting in 2016, the Dukes crushed the Eagles 80-7 to extend their lead in the series to 7-2.

The two schools are also scheduled to meet in Harrisonburg on Sept. 4, 2021, which was previously reported. Morehead State will receive a $150,000 guarantee for that contest as well.

James Madison is the second scheduled non-conference opponent for Morehead State for the 2023 season. The Eagles are also scheduled to host Gardner-Webb on Sept. 16.

Morehead State is the first known non-conference opponent for James Madison’s 2023 football schedule.

Morehead State is scheduled to open the 2019 season on Thursday, Aug. 29 at home against the Union (KY) Bulldogs. James Madison opens the season two days later on Saturday, Aug. 31 on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
