The Iowa State Cyclones have added the Incarnate Word Cardinals to their 2018 football schedule, the two schools announced on Wednesday.
The game is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. The game will kick off at 2:00pm ET/1:00pm CT and will air on Cyclones.tv.
Incarnate Word replaces Iowa State’s canceled home-opener against South Dakota State.
“Although it’s been a challenging process to identify a school that was willing and able to play in Ames on Dec. 1, we are thankful to the Cardinals’ Athletics Director Brian Wickstrom and Coach Eric Morris in helping us schedule this game,” ISU Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “We explored multiple options to give our student-athletes every opportunity to compete and, ultimately, be eligible to participate in a bowl game. Our student-athletes only have so many chances in their career to play collegiate football. I’m very grateful to the administration at UIW for helping us provide our student-athletes, as well as our marching band and spirit squad another chance to represent Iowa State University.”
Should Iowa State make the Big 12 Championship Game (Dec. 1 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas) or Incarnate Word qualify for the FCS Playoffs, the game will not be played.
“This is a great opportunity for us to play a Power 5 team at a great venue,” said Incarnate Word Director of Athletics Dr. Brian Wickstrom. “This will help us provide a better student-athlete experience and will be an exciting trip for the team. This is also a chance to take our brand to the Midwest, which will be great for the university as a whole.”
As a result of adding the additional game against Iowa State, Incarnate Word has canceled their Thursday, Nov. 15 home game against the North Alabama Lions.
