Bowling Green drops Rhode Island, adds Mercyhurst to 2027 football schedule

The Bowling Green Falcons have adjusted their 2027 football schedule, swapping out FCS opponents, according to an announcement from the school.

Bowling Green had been slated to host Rhode Island on September 11, 2027, a matchup we reported back in July. However, that game will no longer take place, likely due to a date conflict between the two schools.

In Rhode Island’s place, Bowling Green has added a home date with Mercyhurst. The Falcons will host the Lakers on September 18, 2027, at Doyt Perry Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools and will serve as Bowling Green’s Homecoming game.

Bowling Green is slated to open the 2027 season on August 28 at Ohio State. The contest had originally been scheduled for September 4 but was moved up following the NCAA’s June decision to standardize a 14‑week playing season beginning next year.

The Falcons’ remaining non-conference slate includes road trips to Iowa State on September 4 and Marshall on September 25.

The 2027 campaign will also be the final season in which the Mid-American Conference plays an eight‑game league schedule. The MAC will shift to a nine‑game conference format with three non‑conference opponents beginning in 2028.
