The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Army Black Knights will play at Yankee Stadium in 2024, both schools announced on Wednesday.
News of the matchup was first reported by Sal Interdonato of Black Knight Nation back in 2021.
Notre Dame and Army will meet at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. The game will be televised by NBC and streamed via Peacock.
The game will mark the return of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series to Yankee Stadium, which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Notre Dame’s 13-7 upset victory over Army on Oct. 18, 1924.
Army and Notre Dame first met on the gridiron on Nov. 1, 1913 at Army’s parade field, The Plain, in West Point, N.Y. The Fighting Irish defeated the Black Knights in that contest, 35-13.
In their most recent matchup in 2016 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the Fighting Irish defeated the Black Knights 44-6 to extend their lead in the overall series to 39-8-4. Army has not defeated Notre Dame since a 14-2 victory in South Bend in 1958.
Army is scheduled to open the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at home at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y., against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. The 2024 season will be the first for the Black Knights as members of the American Athletic Conference.
Notre Dame is scheduled to open their season the following day on Saturday, Aug. 31 on the road against the Texas A&M Aggies.
Football Schedules
Navy, Army, Northern Illinois and Miami (Ohio) all in one season. Yikes.
I am Northern Illinois Huskies Fan & looking forward to them playing Fighting Irish of Notre Dame 9/7/24 that & My Michigan Wolverines hosting Texas Longhorn would make a fantastic NBC College Football Doubleheader.
Yawn.
Notre Dame’s schedule badly needed a Tier 1 or 2 home game in the 12th-game slot that has now been clarified.
I can’t believe Jack Swarbrick has dropped this turd of a home schedule on a university paying him a seven-figure salary and lauding him in every conceivable public setting on his way out the door.
I can’t recall a more lackluster ND home schedule and would bet you have to go back at least 50 years to find a contender if one even exists.
Hit the road, Jack!
You weren’t joking
Excellent!!!! given the moment, the hell with the S O S
Terrible game at terrible football stadium
Yankee Stadium sucks for football
In 2025 I like FCS Villanova Wildcats & Clemson Tigers be added to Notre Schedule & have Furman Paladins be FCS replacement opponent for Penn State Nittany Lions.
excuse me for not putting Dame in comments.
I would like CBS to show Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Purdue Boilermakers 3:30PM Kickoff 9/14/24.
Notre Dame was put in a tough spot when the “U” dropped them from the schedule. But when Michigan St. had an opening it would have been nice to see the Irish play Sparty Nov 2 at Ford Field (This could have worked with Indiana and Spart moving their 11/2 game to the common bye of 10/12). A Big Ten opponent even a down one looks better than an American opponent. Irish will probably have to win 2 of 3 between A&M, Free Shoes University, and USC if they want to make the playoff. Also can’t allow a Louisville like game to happen either.
Actually not sure about that.
Several months before Da U begged out of the game due to over-scheduling, the ND-Louisville game was moved forward from 2026 to 2024.
And then, eventually, ND-Da U was moved back from 2024 to 2026.
I suppose those two moves were linked even though not announced contemporaneously. As ND and Da U are private universities, they are not beholden to all of Kevin Kelley’s FOI sleuthing.
For the nostalgic, Da U may look a more attractive home game, but I suspect there’s a better-than-even likelihood that Lousville will prove to be the more formidable opponent in 2024.
As this Army game has reportedly been in the works since 2021, I really don’t think it’s the game replacing Da U.
As an aside, following its move to The American, Army had a 17-game schedule that they have gradually been whittling down. I personally don’t think it’s a great look for the Black Knights of the Hudson to have “over-cancelled” games to create space for this game.
Army at Yankees Stadium is fine with me & I am not a Fan of Michigan State however I am happy with them playing Indiana 11/2 & would make a excellent game on NBC streaming service Peacock with 4:00PM Kickoff.
It’s 2010 all over again for ND
