2020 Eastern Washington-Florida football game rescheduled for 2022

The Eastern Washington Eagles and the Florida Gators have agreed to reschedule their postponed football game in 2020 to the 2022 season.

Florida was previously scheduled to host Eastern Washington on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2020, but the game was canceled due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Gators will now host the Eagles at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. Florida will pay EWU a $750,000 guarantee for the contest, according to the terms of the original contract.

“Florida has been a great partner throughout this process,” said EWU Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey. “We are glad it worked out to re-schedule the game, because our program was looking forward to the challenge of playing a SEC opponent.”

Eastern Washington is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and competes in the Big Sky Conference. The Eagles are playing their postponed fall 2020 season this spring and currently have a 2-1 record.

The addition of Eastern Washington completes Florida’s non-conference schedule for the 2022 season. The Gators are scheduled to open the season at home against Utah on Sept. 3 and later host USF on Sept. 17 before closing out the season at in-state rival Florida State on Nov. 30.

Eastern Washington now has two non-conference opponents set for their 2022 schedule. The Eagles are also slated to play at Oregon on Sept. 10.
