2020 Coastal Carolina-South Carolina football game rescheduled for 2025

By Kevin Kelley -

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the South Carolina Gamecocks have agreed to reschedule their postponed football game in 2020 to the 2025 season.

The copy of the addendum to the football game agreement was obtained from Coastal Carolina University via a state Freedom of Information Act request.

Coastal Carolina was previously scheduled to travel to take on South Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, but the game was canceled due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Chanticleers will now travel to play the Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025. South Carolina will pay CCU a $1.4 million guarantee for the contest, according to the copy of the addendum.

Coastal Carolina and South Carolina have met twice on the gridiron and both games were played in Columbia. The Gamecocks defeated the Chanticleers in both contests, 70-10 in 2013 and 49-15 in 2018.

The addition of Coastal Carolina completes South Carolina’s non-conference schedule for the 2025 season. The Gamecocks are scheduled to open the season against Virginia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., and the game will be played on either Sunday, Aug. 31 or Monday, Sept. 1.

South Carolina is also scheduled to play at Appalachian State on Sept. 20 and host in-state rival Clemson on Nov. 29 that season.

In SEC play in 2025, South Carolina is scheduled to host Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt and travel to Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

The Gamecocks are the first scheduled non-conference opponent for Coastal Carolina for the 2025 season.
