Youngstown State adds Incarnate Word, Duquesne to future football slates

By Kevin Kelley -

The Youngstown State Penguins have added games against the Incarnate Word Cardinals and the Duquesne Dukes to their future football schedules, has learned.

Copies of contracts for each game were obtained from Youngstown State University via a state open records request.

Youngstown State will host the Incarnate Word Cardinals at Stambaugh Stadium in Youngstown, Ohio, on Thursday, September 2, 2021. YSU will pay UIW a $135,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract.

The 2021 contest between Youngstown State, a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, and Incarnate Word, a member of the Southland Conference, will mark their first-ever meeting on the gridiron.

The addition of Incarnate Word tentatively completes Youngstown State’s non-conference schedule for the 2021 season. The Penguins are also scheduled to play at Michigan State on Sept. 11 and host McNeese on Sept. 18.

Youngstown State is the second scheduled non-conference opponent for Incarnate Word in 2021. The Cardinals are also slated to host Prairie View A&M on Sept. 11.

The Duquesne Dukes will travel to take on Youngstown State at Stambaugh Stadium on September 14, 2024 and then again two seasons later on September 12, 2026. YSU will pay Duquesne a guarantee of $115,000 for each contest.

Youngstown State is also scheduled to host Duquesne on September 12, 2020 and September 3, 2022, both of which were previously announced. The Dukes will receive guarantees of $100,000 for the contest in 2020 and $110,000 for the contest in 2022.

The Duquesne Dukes play in the Northeast Conference (NEC). In four previous contests against Youngstown State, Duquesne is winless at 0-4.
