Western Carolina announces fall 2021 football schedule

The Western Carolina Catamounts have announced their fall 2021 football schedule, which features a game at Oklahoma.

Western Carolina opens the 2021 season under new head coach Kerwin Bell on Saturday, Sept. 4 at home at E.J. Whitmire Stadium in Cullowhee, N.C., against Eastern Kentucky. The following week on Sept. 11, the Catamounts travel to Norman to take on Oklahoma.

The third and final non-conference game for Western Carolina in 2021 is Gardner-Webb on the road on Sept. 25.

Western Carolina opens Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Sept. 18 at home against Samford. Other home SoCon games include Mercer (Oct. 9; Homecoming), Furman (Nov. 6), and ETSU (Nov. 13).

The Catamounts will travel to take on SoCon foes Chattanooga on Oct. 2, The Citadel on Oct. 23, Wofford on Oct. 30, and VMI on Nov. 20.

Western Carolina finished the 2020-21 football season 1-8 overall and 1-5 in SoCon action. Following the season, head coach Mark Speir was not retained.
