The Virginia Cavaliers will host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as part of their 2027 football schedule, according to an official announcement Wednesday.
Virginia will host Notre Dame at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., on a date to be announced during the 2027 season. The matchup will mark the sixth all‑time meeting between the two programs.
The Cavaliers and Fighting Irish first met in 1989 and last played in 2024 in South Bend, with Notre Dame winning all five previous contests.
The addition of Notre Dame completes Virginia’s non‑conference schedule for 2027. The Cavaliers are slated to open the season on Aug. 28 at home against Arkansas State and will also host William & Mary on Oct. 16.
The ACC has already announced each member’s conference opponents for 2027. Virginia will host Louisville, Pitt, SMU, and Virginia Tech, and will travel to Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, and Stanford.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, has finalized its 12‑game Independent slate with the inclusion of Virginia. Barring any adjustments, potential dates for the Irish to visit Charlottesville include Sept. 11, Oct. 23, or Nov. 13.
Notre Dame’s home opponents next season include Purdue (Sept. 4), Auburn (Sept. 25), Kent State (Oct. 2), Virginia Tech (Nov. 6), Navy (Nov. 20), and BYU (date TBA).
In addition to the trip to Virginia, the Irish are scheduled to visit Michigan State (Sept. 18), Wake Forest (Oct. 9 in Charlotte), Clemson (Oct. 30), Stanford (Nov. 27), and Duke (date TBA).
I have a feeling that the 2031 game doesn’t happen given Virginia already has a P4 opponent and 4 non-conf games that season.
Some Notre Dame probably getting shifted around and this looks like it may have been moved up from 2031.

It’s interesting that ND seems to have swapped out a home game (Georgia Tech) for an away game (UVA). I wonder if further changes to ND’s schedule could be coming.
