The postponed 2020 Virginia Cavaliers at Virginia Tech Hokies football game has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 12, the ACC has announced.

Virginia and Virginia Tech were previously scheduled to meet on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. However, the game was postponed due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The 2020 ACC Football Championship Game is scheduled to be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, Dec. 12 or Dec. 19. An announcement on playing that game on Dec. 19 was not made today, so it could still be held on Dec. 12 if Virginia or Virginia Tech do not qualify.

Virginia and Virginia Tech play annually for the Commonwealth Cup. The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1895 and have played a total of 101 contests.

In their most recent meeting on Nov. 29, 2019, Virginia defeated Virginia Tech 39-30 in Charlottesville to stop a 15 game losing streak to the Hokies. Virginia Tech currently leads the overall series by a 20-game margin, 58-38-5.

Virginia’s first game of the 2020 season is currently scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26 at home against the Duke Blue Devils. The game is scheduled for a 4:00pm ET kickoff and it will be televised by the ACC Network.

Virginia Tech has also not yet played a game this season. The Hokies open their slate at home on Saturday, Sept. 26 against the NC State Wolfpack and the game is set for 8:00pm ET on the ACC Network.
