Vanderbilt and UNLV will play a home-and-home football series in 2019 and 2023, the Commodores’ sports information department announced Wednesday.
The 2019 contest will take place in Vanderbilt Stadium (Oct. 12), with the return visit to Las Vegas on September 16, 2023.
UNLV’s Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois confirmed the dates in a separate release.
“We are delighted to add Vanderbilt to our future schedule,” said Reed-Francois in the release. “Signing a home-and-home series with an SEC team shows how bright the future is for our program. Las Vegas is a world-class city and we look forward to hosting the Commodores and other fan bases from major programs in the coming years.”
UNLV also announced its 2019 home opener will be contested against Southern Utah in that release. That outing is slated for August 31, 2019.
UNLV and Vanderbilt have never faced off on the gridiron.

I truly have to believe if UNLV was not located in Las Vegas that Vandy would not a be hosting a home in home. Because Vegas is still continuing to grow & getting an NFL team as well, why not take the boys out to Vegas & show them a good time, city is beautiful place lit up at night.
Agreed….UNLV has nice history of getting bigger schools to travel there…..UNLV might be ready to seize Nevada as Boise did Idaho…..
UNLV should be in that sparkly new stadium by that home date.
Unfortunately, UNLV cannot attract more than 15,000-20,000 fans to a home game. The stadium will feel like a tomb if they don’t get their act together.
I believe that UNLV will be better in the future.
