UTEP to host Bethune-Cookman in 2021

By Kevin Kelley -

The UTEP Miners have added the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats to their football schedule in 2021, FBSchedules.com has learned.

A copy of the game contract was obtained from the University of Texas at El Paso via a Texas Public Information Act request.

UTEP will host Bethune-Cookman at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, on September 4, 2021. The Miners will pay the Wildcats a $400,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract.

The 2021 contest between UTEP and Bethune-Cookman will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the football field.

Bethune-Cookman is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Wildcats finished the 2018 season 7-5 overall and 5-2 in MEAC play.

The addition of Bethune-Cookman tentatively completes UTEP’s non-conference schedule for the 2021 season. Other games scheduled for the Miners in 2021 include at Boise State (Sept. 11), at New Mexico State (Sept. 18), and home against New Mexico (Sept. 25).

UTEP is the first known non-conference opponent for Bethune-Cookman’s 2021 football schedule.

UTEP is scheduled to open the 2019 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 at home at Sun Bowl Stadium against the Houston Baptist Huskies. Bethune-Cookman opens the season one day later on Sunday, Sept. 1 against the Jackson State Tigers in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge at Georgia State Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
