The UNLV Rebels will play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2022, the school announced on Tuesday.

UNLV will travel to take on Notre Dame at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind., on October 22, 2022. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Notre Dame will pay UNLV a $1.35 million guarantee for playing the game, according to UNLV’s release.

“Nothing says college football history more than playing a game at Notre Dame,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois. “We are looking forward to taking our team and our fans to South Bend for what is sure to be a memorable experience.”

Notre Dame is the second announced non-conference opponent for UNLV for the 2022 season. The Rebels are also scheduled to play at the California Golden Bears on Sept. 10, which was moved up one week from its previously scheduled date of Sept. 17.

In Mountain West Conference play in 2022, UNLV is scheduled to host Air Force, Fresno State, Nevada, and New Mexico and travel to Hawaii, San Diego State, San Jose State, and Utah State.

The Fighting Irish, a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Independent, now have 11 games set for their 2022 football schedule. UNLV adds to a home scheduled that also includes Marshall (Sept. 10), California (Sept. 17), Stanford (Oct. 15), Clemson (Nov. 5), and Boston College (date TBA).

Road opponents for Notre Dame in 2022 include Ohio State (Sept. 3), USC (Nov. 26), Navy (date TBA; previously Oct. 22), North Carolina (date TBA), and Syracuse (date TBA).

One would assume Navy will move since it was set for the same date as this one. Probably to November.
