UMass adds Pitt, Florida State, Auburn, more to future football schedules

By Kevin Kelley -

The UMass Minutemen have announced an update to their future football schedules, which includes new games at Pitt, Florida State, Auburn, and more.

UMass Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford announced the additions and updates to their future football schedules late Wednesday afternoon.

“We’ve been hard at work over the last nine months building competitive future schedules that will allow our Independent program to grow and be challenged,” Bamford said. “We are pleased with our scheduling progress and ability to secure agreements with a mix of Power Five, Group of Five and regional FCS opponents.”

The updates include 24 total contests from 2021 through 2028, but many of those have already been announced and others are simply date changes within the same season.

Below are six new contests that have not been previously announced:

  • Sept. 4, 2021 – at Pitt
  • Oct. 23, 2021 – at Florida State
  • Sept. 2, 2023 – at Auburn
  • Nov. 4, 2023 – vs. Merrimack
  • Sept. 21, 2024 – vs. Wagner
  • Sept. 6, 2025 – at Boston College (rescheduled from Sept. 17, 2022)

One change will have the UMass Minutemen playing in Week Zero. UMass was previously scheduled to play at New Mexico State on Sept. 30, 2023, but that game has been moved up five weeks to Aug. 26 that season. The contest is eligible to be played in Week Zero because NMSU plays at Hawaii in 2023.
