The Troy Trojans at South Alabama Jaguars football game this weekend has been postponed, both schools have announced.
South Alabama postponed the game against Troy due to “…precautionary measures concerning the availability of student-athletes.” South Alabama was slated to host Troy at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8:00pm ET with television coverage on ESPNU.
“This postponement is unfortunately, however it’s prudent and wise. Our most significant concern is the wellbeing of our student-athletes,” said USA Director of Athletics Joel Erdmann said. “We are looking forward to hosting Troy at Hancock Whitney Stadium at a date to be determined. We appreciate the collaboration and understanding of Troy, and the leadership of the Sun Belt Conference office in working through this situation.”
South Alabama, Troy, and the Sun Belt Conference will attempt to reschedule the contest later this season.
South Alabama is 1-2 so far this season following a win at Southern Miss and home losses to Tulane and UAB. Their next scheduled contest is on Saturday, Oct. 17 at home against the Texas State Bobcats.
“We are obviously disappointed for our team but certainly respect this decision,” Troy Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. “This is a tremendous rivalry game for both teams and fan bases, and I appreciate South Alabama Athletics Director Joel Erdmann and the Sun Belt Conference for their open lines of communication during this process. We look forward to welcoming our great fans back to The Vet on Oct. 10 when we host Texas State in our home opener.”
