Texas State, FIU schedule home-and-home football series for 2021, 2022

By Kevin Kelley -

The Texas State Bobcats and the FIU Panthers have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, FBSchedules.com has learned.

A copy of the game contract was obtained from Texas State University via a Texas Public Information Act request.

In the first game of the series, Texas State will travel to take on FIU at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami, Fla., on September 11, 2021. The Bobcats will host the Panthers to conclude the series at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas, on September 9, 2022.

The 2021 Texas State-FIU matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the football field.

The addition of FIU tentatively completes Texas State’s non-conference schedule for the 2021 season. The Bobcats are scheduled to open the season at home against the Baylor Bears on Sept. 4.

Other non-conference contests for Texas State in 2021 include Eastern Michigan on the road on Sept. 25 and UTSA on the road on a date to be announced.

Texas State’s 2022 non-conference schedule already consisted of four games, so one contest will have to be postponed or canceled. It could be the UTSA contest, as that game is scheduled for the same week as the newly scheduled FIU contest.

The Bobcats are slated to open the 2022 season at Nevada on Sept. 3 and later travel to take on Baylor (Sept. 17) before hosting Houston Baptist (Sept. 24).

FIU now has three scheduled non-conference contests for both the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In 2021, the Panthers will travel to play Texas Tech on Sept. 2 and Central Michigan on Sept. 25.

In addition to the game at Texas State, FIU’s 2022 schedule includes contests at home against Liberty (Oct. 8) and UCF (date to be determined).
