TCU Accepts Offer to join the Big East in 2012

By Kevin Kelley -

Big EastThe TCU Horned Frogs have accepted an offer to join the Big East Conference in all sports (source). TCU will join the league on July 1, 2012.

TCU is the third school this year to announce they are leaving the Mountain West. BYU is leaving to become an independent and Utah is joining the new Pac-12.

Once TCU’s move is complete, the Big East will have nine football schools. The conference is looking to expand to ten schools and have previously asked Villanova to join from the FCS. If Villanova declines, sources indicate that the Big East will invite the UCF Knights of Conference USA.

TCU just completed their 2010 season undefeated at 12-0. The Horned Frogs are guaranteed a BCS Bowl bid, and could even make the BCS National Championship game should Auburn or Oregon lose this weekend.

Ouch! The MWC just took one across the chops….and with the two Utah schools leaving as well….all the MWC has become is just a slightly stronger version of the WAC. The Pac 10 erred in taking Colorado, they should have taken Utah and BYU instead. Colorado should have stayed in the Big 12.
