The Stetson Hatters will host the Ave Maria Gyrenes in 2021, according to the official athletics website of Ave Maria University.
Stetson will host Ave Maria at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The game will mark the second meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
In their first and only matchup on the gridiron back in 2015, the Hatters defeated the Gyrenes 60-21 in DeLand. The two schools were previously scheduled to meet last fall, but the game was canceled due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Stetson competes in the Pioneer Football League in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), while Ave Maria plays in the Mid-South Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Ave Maria is the second known non-conference opponent for Stetson’s fall 2021 football schedule. The Hatters are also scheduled to play at the Princeton Tigers on Saturday, Sept. 25 that season.
Stetson is 0-2 so far during the Pioneer Football League’s spring 2021 football season. The Hatters were scheduled to host the Drake Bulldogs this weekend, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 issues. Stetson is slated to return to action on Saturday, April 3 at home against the Presbyterian Blue Hose.
