The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions have scheduled a home-and-home football series for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the football game contract was obtained from both Texas A&M University-Commerce and Stephen F. Austin State University via state public information requests.
In the first game of the series, Stephen F. Austin will host Texas A&M-Commerce at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. The series will conclude the following season with the Lumberjacks traveling to face the Lions at E.H. Field at Memorial Stadium in Commerce, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024.
Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Commerce first met on the gridiron in 1924 and have played 57 contests overall. In their most recent matchup in 2014, the Lumberjacks defeated the Lions 38-17, but the Lions still lead the overall series 43-13-1.
Stephen F. Austin is currently a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) following their departure from the Southland Conference in 2021. Texas A&M-Commerce begins play in the Southland Conference this season after moving up from Division II.
Stephen F. Austin is scheduled to open the 2022 season in Week Zero on Saturday, Aug. 27 against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. Texas A&M-Commerce opens their season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at home against the Lincoln (Calif.) Oaklanders.
