By Kevin Kelley -

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles at UAB Blazers football game has been canceled due to COVID-19, both schools announced on Tuesday.

The two schools were scheduled to meet at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday, Nov. 27. The contest will not be played due to “… precautionary reasons resulting from COVID-19 concerns within the Golden Eagle program.” According to the release, UAB “…will continue to work with Conference USA on the remaining regular season schedule.”

The game was scheduled to be UAB’s final contest at Legion Field. The Blazers move into the brand new Protective Stadium next season.

UAB (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) has not played a football game since a 37-34 double-overtime loss at the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 31. Games against the North Texas Mean Green at home on Nov. 14 and at the UTEP Miners on Nov. 21 were both canceled due to COVID-19.

The Blazers’ next scheduled contest is on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Rice Owls.

Southern Miss is 2-7 overall and 1-4 in Conference USA action this season. The Golden Eagles are scheduled to return to the gridiron on Friday, Dec. 4 at the UTEP Miners. The game is slated for 8:00pm ET and will be streamed via ESPN3.
