The Southern Illinois Salukis have added the Dayton Flyers to their 2021 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the football game contract was obtained from Southern Illinois University via a state of Illinois Freedom of Information Act request.
Southern Illinois will host Dayton at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. The Salukis will pay the Flyers a $100,000 guarantee for playing the contest, according to the copy of the contract.
Southern Illinois is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, while Dayton competes in the Pioneer Football League, both in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1967 and have played six times overall. The Salukis won the most recent meeting in 1974, 38-16, to take a one-game advantage in the series at 3-2-1.
The addition of Dayton completes the non-conference schedule for Southern Illinois in 2021. The Salukis are scheduled to open the season at the Southeast Missouri Redhawks on Thursday, Sept. 2 and then travel to take on the Kansas State Wildcats the following week on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Southern Illinois is the first known non-conference opponent for Dayton for the 2021 season.
