The South Dakota Coyotes will host the Dixie State Trailblazers in 2020, which completes their schedule for that season, the school announced on Wednesday.

South Dakota will host Dixie State at the DakotaDome in Vermillion on Oct. 17, 2020. The game will mark the first-ver meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Dixie State University, located in St. George, Utah, is moving up to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2020 and will compete as an Independent.

The addition of Dixie State completes South Dakota’s 2020 football schedule, which was also announced in full.

“The 2020 schedule represents our continued commitment to playing high quality, Division I competition,” said Coyote head coach Bob Nielson. “We look forward to opening the renovated DakotaDome. It will be a fantastic facility and one of the best home field advantages in the country.”

South Dakota will open the 2020 season with consecutive road contests at Iowa State on Sept. 5 and at Northern Arizona on Sept. 12.

The Coyotes first home game in 2020 will be a Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) contest against Missouri State on Sept. 19. South Dakota then plays three more MVFC foes consecutively — at Illinois State (Sept. 26), vs. Western Illinois (Oct. 3), and at South Dakota State (Oct. 10).

After the previously mentioned Dixie State contest, South Dakota welcomes Northern Iowa to the DakotaDome on Oct. 24. The Coyotes then have back-to-back trips against North Dakota on Oct. 31 and Indiana State on Nov. 14, with an off week sandwiched between.

South Dakota closes out the 2020 regular-season with a Nov. 21 home contest against North Dakota State.
