South Carolina adds two FCS opponents to future football schedules

The South Carolina Gamecocks have added two Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponents to their future football schedules, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Copies of the football game agreements were obtained from the University of South Carolina via a state Freedom of Information Act request.

South Carolina will host the South Carolina State Bulldogs at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. The Gamecocks will pay the Bulldogs a $500,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract.

South Carolina and South Carolina State have met on the gridiron twice previously. The Gamecocks defeated the Bulldogs in both contests, 38-3 in 2007 and 38-14 in 2009.

The addition of South Carolina State completes the non-conference schedule for the Gamecocks in 2022. South Carolina is also scheduled to host Georgia State (Sept. 3) and Charlotte (Sept. 24) and travel to Clemson (Nov. 26) that season.

South Carolina has also added a pair of games against the Wofford Terriers. The Gamecocks will host the Terriers in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024 and then again two seasons later on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026. Wofford will receive guarantees of $600,000 for each game, per the contract.

South Carolina was originally scheduled to host Wofford during the 2021 season. The game was later moved to the 2022 season before being rescheduled for the 2020 season. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 game was not played.

South Carolina and Wofford first met on the gridiron in 1895 and have played a total of 24 contests. In their most recent contest in 2017, the Gamecocks defeated the Terriers 31-10 and now lead the series 20-4.

The addition of Wofford completes South Carolina’s 2024 non-conference schedule. Other games scheduled that season include Old Dominion (Aug. 31) and Akron (Sept. 21) at home and Clemson on the road (Nov. 30).

The Gamecocks now have three non-conference opponents scheduled in 2026. South Carolina is also slated to host the Miami Hurricanes on a date to be determined (previously set for Sept. 5) and travel to play Clemson on Nov. 25.
