The Baylor Bears will host the Wofford Terriers in 2013, a source with knowledge of the situation has indicated to

Baylor had an opening come up on their 2013 schedule last week when SMU decided to cancel their Sept. 14 home game against the Bears. SMU subsequently scheduled a home game against Montana State.

Wofford was previously scheduled to play at Florida State on Aug. 31, but that game was also canceled to allow the Seminoles to play at Pittsburgh on Labor Day evening. The cancellation opened the door for the Terriers to play at Baylor.

A contract has not yet been signed for the Baylor-Wofford game, but an agreement is said to be in place. The Wofford athletic department declined to comment on the possible new match-up, while Baylor has yet to respond.

A likely date for the Wofford at Baylor game is Aug. 31, 2013. Both schools have that date open. The two schools also share open dates on Sept. 28 and Nov. 2.

Wofford, located in Spartanburg, SC, finished the 2012 season 9-4 and claimed the Southern Conference title. The Terriers lost 14-7 in the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs to eventual national champion North Dakota State.

Earlier today, ESPN Central Texas tweeted that Baylor had “identified” their final opponent and that it “will be FCS and a home game.”

Update (2/25/13)

Baylor has confirmed the game for Aug. 31, 2013.

Wofford? Hmmm that interesting. Of course gotta give SMU credit for putting Baylor in this situation.

woffford graduated some key offensive personnel……they will still give the Bears a good game, and BU’s third teamers should not count on playing the entire 2nd half.

SMU weasled out of a game with Baylor that would have filled Ford Stadium and been on national TV. Now, they’re looking at 10,000 on hand and no TV. You can’t run a first-class program by this type of action. It’ll affect recruiting down the line. Bonehead move by the SMU AD.

what was a crap non league schedule before SMU bailed is one of the worst in the country if not number 1.
