Sacred Heart releases 2019 football schedule

By Brian Wilmer -

The Sacred Heart Pioneers have announced their 2019 football schedule (via FCS STATS), which includes five home tilts and seven road contests.

The slate begins with a trip to 2018 FCS playoff participant Maine. The Aug. 30 game pits the Pioneers against the Bears of the Colonial Athletic Association. Bucknell then visits Sept. 7, before a Sept. 14 journey to Lafayette. September closes with a Sept. 21 trip to Long Island to begin Northeast Conference play, followed by a Sept. 28 open date.

Central Connecticut State makes the roughly hour-long drive to Fairfield to battle Sacred Heart on Oct. 5, followed by the penultimate non-conference game at Penn on Oct. 12. Duquesne comes to town on Oct. 19, with a trip to Saint Francis next on Oct. 26.

Road games serve as November bookends, with trips to Bryant (Nov. 2) and Robert Morris (Nov. 23) performing that duty. Wagner will face off with Sacred Heart on Nov. 9, with non-league foe Lehigh serving as the Pioneers’ final non-league combatant on Nov. 16.

Mark Nofri’s Pioneers were NEC co-champs last season, sporting a 7-4 overall record.
