The Rice Owls and the New Mexico State Aggies have scheduled a 2013-14 home-and-home football series, The Houston Chronicle has reported via Twitter. The two schools have never met in football.

In the first game of the series, Rice will travel to face New Mexico State at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Oct. 19, 2013. The second and final game of the series will be played at Rice Stadium in Houston on Sept. 6, 2014.

Rice now has four non-conference games set for 2013. The Owls are also slated to open at Texas A&M on Aug. 31, host Kansas on Sept. 14, and face Houston in the Bayou Bucket at Reliant Stadium (date TBA).

In 2014, Rice opens at Notre Dame on Aug. 30 and travels to Army on Oct. 11, in additional to hosting NMSU.

New Mexico State, who will play as an FBS Independent in 2013, now has nine games for their 2013 football schedule. The Aggies are slated to host Rice, Idaho, Minnesota, and UTEP and travel to Texas, UCLA, New Mexico, Idaho, and Florida Atlantic. NMSU is also rumored to be hosting Abilene Christian in 2013.
