The Purdue Boilermakers at Wisconsin Badgers football game on Saturday, Nov. 7 has been canceled, it was announced on Tuesday.

The game was canceled due to additional novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) cases at Wisconsin and it will not be rescheduled.

“I share in the disappointment of our student-athletes and staff,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. “We have seen a level of improvement in our testing numbers, but not enough to give us confidence to resume normal activities and play our game on Saturday. We will continue to test regularly, take the proper health-related precautions and look forward to getting our team back on the field as soon as possible.”

There have been five (two staff and three student-athletes) positive COVID-19 PCR tests recorded since Saturday, Oct. 31. Over the last seven days (Oct. 27-Nov. 2), student-athletes (10) and staff (11) have registered a total of 21 positive tests. There are currently 27 active cases in the program, all since Saturday, Oct. 24. That includes 15 football student-athletes and 12 staff members.

Wisconsin’s game at the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, Oct. 31 was canceled last week. In the Badgers’ first and only game of the season, they defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 45-7.

Wisconsin’s next scheduled game is at the 23rd-ranked Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, Nov. 14. The game is slated to be televised by ABC at 7:30pm ET.

Purdue is 2-0 so far this season following wins at home over Iowa, 24-20, and on the road against Illinois, 31-24. The Boilermakers’ next contest is on Saturday, Nov. 14 at home against the Northwestern Wildcats (7:30pm ET, BTN).
