The Pittsburgh Panthers have added the Old Dominion Monarchs to their 2013 football schedule, The Virginian-Pilot has reported.
Pitt will host ODU at Heinz Field on Oct. 19, 2013. The game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Due to the ACC scheduling Pittsburgh to host Florida State on Labor Day night, the Panthers had to cancel their previously scheduled home opener against Villanova on Aug. 31.
Pitt quickly found their replacement in the Monarchs, who have been searching for another FBS opponent for weeks. ODU was reportedly in discussions with Syracuse, but the two must not have been able to agree on a date.
Old Dominion will be classified as an FCS Independent for the 2013 season. They are moving up to the FBS in 2014 and will play a full Conference USA schedule.
The Panthers have now completed their 2013 non-conference schedule, which begins at home on Sept. 14 against New Mexico. After hosting ODU on Oct. 19, Pitt travels to Navy on Oct. 26 and later hosts Notre Dame on Nov. 9.
In ACC play, Pitt hosts Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida State and travels to Duke, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse.
The complete 2013 ACC football schedule is expected to be released today at 3 p.m. ET.
