By Kevin Kelley -

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Texas Longhorns are in discussions for a four-game home-and-home football series, Statesman.com is reporting.

The games would be played in 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2020. Exact dates and sites have not been disclosed.

Notre Dame and Texas first met in 1913 and have played 10 times overall. The Fighting Irish lead the series 8-2 and have won the last four games. Their last meeting was on September 21, 1996 in Austin. Notre Dame won that game 27-24.

Texas has openings on their 2015 and 2016 schedules after recently canceling a home-and-home series with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
