Notre Dame adds New Mexico to 2019 Football Schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have added the New Mexico Lobos to their 2019 football schedule.

Notre Dame will host New Mexico at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend on Sept. 14, 2019. The game, which comes with a $1.1 million guarantee for the Lobos, will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

“It’s exciting for our entire program to have this opportunity to play at the University of Notre Dame on national television in front of a sold out stadium,” said former Notre Dame and current UNM head coach Bob Davie. “I know our fans will also be thrilled to see this addition to our 2019 schedule.”

The addition of New Mexico tentatively gives Notre Dame 11 games on their football schedule for the 2019 season. The Fighting Irish are slated to open the season at Louisville on Labor Day.

Home games for Notre Dame in 2019 include Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Navy, and USC. In addition to UL, the Fighting Irish will travel to face Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke, and Stanford.

New Mexico now has three of their four non-conference games scheduled. The Lobos are also set to travel to ULM and later host New Mexico State.

At last. New Mexico football will get the attention many New Mexicans think it deserves, by playing a high caliber Notre Dame team in Notre Dame Stadium in 2019. Of course, most of those cheering Lobo fans might be torn, between rooting for a UNM team that won’t have a chance, and for a Fighting Irish squad which will likely blow UNM out. Hopefully UNM will put the $1.1 million it receives as a guaranteed payment for the game to good use, and Bob Davie won’t be coaching New Mexico in 2019, and offer his excuses for his team’s poor performance,

Notre dame will not play anyone in the sec because they will lose. They need to stop playing the high school teams, and play the top schools

Craig. I guess you didn’t read the entire article since it says they will also travel to face Georgia.

Amen Craig. One more thing. If ND only had some academic /character standards… Few suspensions recently!!

Before you reply back. FEAR THE TREE. That’s a real institution

Go Stanford!

They wanted to play an FCS school like Georgia Southern or Coastal Carolina but those teams are booked playing the SEC schools

they actually play Georgia and year over year have an average tougher schedule then most SEC teams. I respect the SEC its a tough conference and most of their fans know football.

New Mexico is going to go in there and win. These kids have started to turn this program around and many of them are from New Mexico a state that doesn’t turn out many D1 players. This win is going to change that. To steal a quote from Holtz, ” they put their pants on same way we do.”

I love Notre dame ,but to play the lobos makes me sad who are the lobos ? we need to play michigan love those games dame wake up the echoes not put them to sleep
