The Northern Iowa Panthers and the Sacramento State Hornets have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2021 and 2022, UNI announced on Tuesday.
In the first game of the series, Northern Iowa will travel to face Sacramento State at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif., on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021. The Panthers will host the Hornets the following season at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Sept. 17, 2022, which will conclude the series.
The Northern Iowa-Sacramento State game in 2021 will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
The announcement of the series with Sacramento State was made in conjunction with the release of the finalized Northern Iowa football schedule for fall 2021. The Panthers are also scheduled to play at Iowa State and host St. Thomas in non-conference action.
In fall 2021 Missouri Valley Football Conference action, Northern Iowa is slated to host Youngstown State, South Dakota, Southern Illinois, and Western Illinois and play at North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Illinois State, and Missouri State.
Sacramento State has completed their fall 2021 schedule with the addition of Northern Iowa. The Hornets are also scheduled to play at Dixie State on Sept. 4 and at California on Sept. 18 in non-conference action.
In Big Sky play, the Hornets are scheduled to host Idaho, Montana State, Idaho State, and UC Davis and travel to Portland State, Weber State, Eastern Washington, and Cal Poly.
