Northern Illinois to host Rhode Island in 2020

By Kevin Kelley -

The Northern Illinois Huskies have added the Rhode Island Rams to their 2020 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Northern Illinois will host Rhode Island at Huskie Stadium in Dekalb on Sept. 5, 2020. The Rams will receive a $400,000 guarantee for the game, according to a copy of the contract obtained from Northern Illinois University via a state public records request.

The 2020 contest between NIU and Rhode Island will be their first-ever meeting on the gridiron.

Rhode Island is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in the Football Championship Subdivision (FBS). The Rams finished the 2017 season 3-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

The addition of Rhode Island tentatively completes NIU’s non-conference schedule for the 2020 season. Also on the schedule that year are games at Maryland (Sept. 12) and at Iowa (Sept. 26) and a home contest vs. BYU (Oct. 24).

NIU’s 2018 Huskie Bowl Spring game is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. The Huskies open the 2018 season at Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 1.
