Northeast Conference releases Spring 2021 football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The Northeast Conference (NEC) has released their Spring 2021 football schedule, which is set to begin on March 7.

Six NEC members will participate in the Spring 2021 season — Bryant, Duquesne, LIU, Merrimack, Sacred Heart, and Wagner. Central Connecticut and Saint Francis U. have both opted out.

NEC spring football action kicks off on Sunday, March 7, 2021, with six teams in action. NEC teams will each play a four-game conference schedule, all on Sunday’s, with potential for up to two makeup weeks.

The NEC will also stage a championship game this season on a date to be determined in April.

“It’s been a long road to get to this point, so this announcement comes with great anticipation and excitement around the league,” said Northeast Conference Commissioner Noreen Morris. “These are unprecedented times, so I’m thankful for our Council of Presidents and athletic administrators from around the conference for their unwavering resolve in identifying solutions that prioritized health and safety, and forged a clear path toward a return to play. I’m also thrilled for our resilient student-athletes and coaches, who despite having to make numerous sacrifices along the way, have always remained positive and never wavered in their approach to training and desire to compete. It will be a super spring here in the NEC and I can’t wait to see everyone in action.”

The FCS Playoffs this spring are to begin on Saturday, April 24. The Spring 2021 playoff field will include automatic bids for 11 conferences, including the NEC, and five at-large selections.
