The North Carolina Tar Heels have added the Florida A&M Rattlers to their 2022 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the football competition agreement with Florida A&M University was obtained from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill via a state public records request.
North Carolina will host Florida A&M at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022. The Tar Heels will pay the Rattlers a $450,000 guarantee for playing the game, according to the copy of the contract.
Florida A&M is currently a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). However, the Rattlers are moving to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) beginning with the 2021 season.
With the addition of Florida A&M, North Carolina has tentatively completed their non-conference schedule for the 2022 season. Other opponents for the Tar Heels that season include Appalachian State (Sept. 3) and Georgia State (Sept. 10) on the road and Notre Dame (Sept. 24) at home.
In ACC play in 2022, North Carolina is scheduled to host Georgia Tech, NC State, Pitt, and Virginia Tech and travel to Duke, Miami (FL), Virginia, and Wake Forest.
North Carolina is the first known non-conference opponent for Florida A&M for the 2022 season.
