New Mexico State adds New Mexico Highlands to Spring 2021 football schedule

The New Mexico State Aggies have added the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys to their Spring 2021 football schedule, the school announced on Thursday.

New Mexico State will host New Mexico Highlands at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M., on Saturday, February 27, 2021. The game will mark the 14th overall meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

New Mexico State and New Mexico Highlands first met on the gridiron in 1900. In their most recent contest back in 1999, the Aggies defeated the Cowboys 73-7 to extend their advantage in the series to 10-3.

New Mexico Highlands is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in Division II. The Cowboys finished the 2019 season 2-9 overall and 2-8 in RMAC action.

New Mexico State, an independent in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), now has three games scheduled for the spring of 2021. The Aggies are also slated to host the Tarleton State Texans on Saturday, Feb. 20 and the Dixie State Trailblazers on Saturday, March 6, both of whom are Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Independents.

The Aggies finished the 2019 season 2-10 overall. The 2020 season will be the eighth for New Mexico State under the leadership of head coach Doug Martin.
