Nebraska adds four opponents to future football schedules

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have added games against Oklahoma State, UTEP, ULM, and Ohio to their future football schedules, the school announced on Thursday.

Nebraska and Oklahoma State will play a home-and-home football series in 2034 and 2035. The series will begin with Nebraska hosting Oklahoma State at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., on Sept. 16, 2034. The Cornhuskers will then travel to face the Cowboys at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., on Sept. 15, 2035.

Nebraska and Oklahoma State first met on the gridiron in 1960 and have played a total of 43 contests. The Cornhuskers won the most recent meeting in Stillwater in 2010, 51-41, to extend their series lead to 37-5-1.

“The first time Scott Frost and I sat down to discuss scheduling philosophy, we both shared a goal of making an effort to play former conference opponents,” Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Moos said. “It is exciting to add Oklahoma State to our football schedule, and we will continue to explore additional opportunities for games in our part of the country.

“The Big Ten schedule gives our fans the opportunity to visit some of the nation’s best college football environments, but the reality is many of those places are a long way from Nebraska. Games against schools like Oklahoma State, Colorado and Oklahoma are driveable and affordable trips for Husker fans.”

The UTEP Miners will travel to take on Nebraska two times in a four-year span. UTEP will visit Memorial Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024 and Sept. 2, 2028.

The 2024 contest between Nebraska and UTEP will be their first ever meeting on the gridiron.

In another first-time matchup, the ULM Warhawks will travel to take on the Cornhuskers on Oct. 18, 2025.

The fourth and final opponent announced today by Nebraska are the Ohio Bobcats. Currently led by former Husker head coach and player Frank Solich, Ohio will travel to Lincoln on Sept. 5, 2026. This will also be the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

Nebraska also announced today that they have postponed a scheduled home contest against South Dakota State. The game, previously scheduled for Aug. 31, 2024, has been pushed back six seasons to Sept. 7, 2030. South Dakota State is also slated to visit Lincoln in 2020 and 2028.

Haha, my son who was born in May 2019 will be starting to drive by the time the Nebraska-OK State series starts.

It certainly appears as if that span’s slightly over four years.

I’m glad to see they’re doing some old Big 8/12 games with OU, OSU and Colorado in the future. I am surprised they haven’t tried to get K-State or Kansas to play a home and away to plug some holes in the schedule. I’m sure both schools would want to have a home game against Nebraska to bring in the fans, especially Kansas.
