The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have added the Tennessee State Tigers to their 2019 football schedule, the two schools announced on Monday.
Middle Tennessee will host Tennessee State at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro on Sept. 7, 2019. The matchup will be the 20th in the series between the two schools, which the Blue Raiders currently lead 10-9.
Tennessee State is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Last season, the Tigers finished 7-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
“We have been trying to schedule this game for a few years but working through dates, our change in conferences and their commitment to various classics made it difficult,” said Middle Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. “I really want to thank Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips and Coach Rod Reed for getting this done. It’s a tremendous game for the entire mid-state area and we are very excited about the matchup.”
The addition of Tennessee State completes the Blue Raiders’ 2019 non-conference schedule. Middle Tennessee also travels to Michigan on Aug. 31, hosts Duke on Sept. 14, and plays at Iowa on Sept. 28.
