Michigan State has added Wyoming to their 2014 football schedule and has also set dates for future games in their Celebrate the State football series, their 2012 media guide indicates.
The Spartans are tentatively set to host Wyoming in East Lansing on Sept. 20, 2014. According to the media guide, Michigan State is also playing Eastern Michigan the same day.
Of course Michigan State doesn’t plan on playing a football doubleheader. The Eastern Michigan game, which was previously set for Sept. 20, will likely be pushed to Sept. 27. Or the Wyoming game could be Sept. 27 with EMU staying at Sept. 20. We contacted MSU for clarification but have yet to receive a response.
Michigan State is 2-0 against Wyoming after beating them in East Lansing in 1976 and 1977. The Spartans won 21-10 and 34-16, respectively.
The Spartans have also set dates for games in their Celebrate the State football series, which features match-ups against in-state schools Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan. The series began last year in East Lansing with Michigan State defeating Central Michigan 45-7.
For the first time ever, Michigan State will travel to Kalamazoo to take on Western Michigan on Sept. 19, 2015. The following week (Sept. 26), the Spartans will host Central Michigan.
Celebrate the State continues in 2016 when Eastern Michigan visits Spartan Stadium on Sept. 10.
Overall, the Celebrate the State series features 12 games over 10 seasons. Michigan State will travel to Central Michigan for the first time ever in 2012 and will visit Eastern Michigan in 2018 or 2020, which will be their first trip to Ypsilanti since 1898.
Michigan State is 5-3 vs. Central Michigan, 8-0 vs. Eastern Michigan, and 10-2 vs. Western Michigan.
Update (7/30/12): John Lewandowski, Michigan State’s Associate Athletics Director/Communications, confirmed to us by email that Wyoming is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2014 and Eastern Michigan for Sept. 27, 2014.
Future Football Schedules:
- Michigan State Spartans
- Central Michigan Chippewas
- Eastern Michigan Eagles
- Western Michigan Broncos
- Wyoming Cowboys
glad to see bigger schools traveling to the little guys
hello, Notre Dame? G’on, play a game at the Navy/Marine Corps Mem. Stadium. Play a game at Michie Stadium.
?
I’m not sure there’s a ballsier BCS program in the country than Michigan State when it comes to OOC scheduling. They’re still playing Notre Dame every year (or almost every year) plus upcoming series with Miami, Alabama, USF, Oregon, a 2-for-1 with Boise, and 3 games at MAC campuses all over the next decade.
Yes, MSU gets credit for their scheduling, especially, visiting MAC schools. I cannot knock them one bit.
agreed….I live 20 miles from Ann Arbor and attend a Eastern Mich once a year…I think its a damn shame that UM won’t come to EMU for at least ONE home game….the Eagles would benefit so much from such a gesture. Mad props to the “other” Spartans for stepping up…
Why should UM play in a 30,000 seat stadium when there is an empty 110,000 seat stadium 10 miles away?
What they should do is rent the stadium to EMU for the day, and consider it a “road” game. Since it isnt a UM home game, it wont be part of the season ticket package; it will be part of Easterns.
Of course the game would still sell out; and Eastern would get a bigger share than they ever had before for a “home game”, and UM will get a tremendous visitors share also.
This isn’t all that different than what FAU did 2 or 3 years ago, when they played their “home game” vs MSU at Ford Field in Detroit.
FAU did that ONLY because the new stadium construction fell behind schedule and was not going to be ready for the scheduled home game with MSU.
As a Spartan fan I really like the schedules and tests against the tough opponents. Kind of reminds me of the Izzo philosophy. Hope it will get those kind of results. Also glad they work with the inside the state universities.
