The Michigan Wolverines have added the Charlotte 49ers to their 2028 football schedule, according to an official announcement Friday.
Michigan will host Charlotte at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, September 9, 2028. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Michigan holds a 24-10-1 overall record against current members of the American Conference, while Charlotte is winless in four previous contests against Big Ten opponents.
Charlotte becomes the second non-conference opponent officially added to Michigan’s 2028 slate, joining a home contest against Central Michigan on September 2. That leaves the Wolverines with one non-league opening.
The Big Ten has not yet revealed the conference opponents for each member for the 2028 season, but Michigan should have five home games and four road tilts.
With the addition of the trip to Ann Arbor, Charlotte now has three of its four non-conference opponents set for 2028. The 49ers are also slated to host Charleston Southern on Sept. 2 and travel to Appalachian State on Sept. 16.
