Miami Hurricanes to host UAB in 2020

By Kevin Kelley -

The Miami Hurricanes have added the UAB Blazers to their 2020 football schedule, the school announced on Monday.

Miami will host UAB at Hard Rock Stadium on Sept. 19, 2020. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.

The Hurricanes now have three non-conference games scheduled for the 2020 season. In addition to UAB, Miami is set to host Temple on Sept. 5 and later travel to Michigan State on Sept. 26.

In ACC action in 2020, Miami will host Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Florida State and will travel to face Georgia Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.

“We have a lot of players on our roster from the state of Florida, so for them to have an opportunity to return home for a game like this is a big deal to the players and their families,” UAB head coach Bill Clark said. “We also recruit the state of Florida very heavily and being able to bring our brand to them only helps.”

UAB also has three non-conference games announced for 2020. The Blazers are slated to host Akron on Sept. 12, play at Miami on Sept. 19, and then travel to take on in-state foe South Alabama on Sept. 26.

Good for UAB, they will not be a cupcake vs the Canes. Is UAB not getting any money for this game?

Miami still has two 2019 OOC games to announce. Same with FIU. Will FIU@MiamiFL be a 2019 game? Then both will need to add an FCS game. Florida has two FCS programs on their schedule. Will Florida move one of those games? I suspect UTSA-New Mexico St game will be on the schedule. After considering the above, eight additional FBS programs still need to announce a FCS opponent.
