By Brian Wilmer -

The Memphis Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2028 and 2029, Memphis’s sports information department reported Thursday.

The 2028 contest will be played in Memphis on Sept. 16, with the 2029 tilt traveling to Starkville on Sept. 15. The series joins a previously-announced duo of games in Memphis in 2021 and Starkville in 2022.

Mississippi State has won 27 of the 37 games between the regional rivals, separated by fewer than 200 miles. The Bulldogs have claimed 12 in a row against the Tigers. The most recent Memphis victory was a 45-35 result in Starkville on September 4, 1993.

The 2019 edition of the Bulldogs finished the campaign 6-7 (3-5 SEC), with the season concluding after a 38-28 loss to Louisville in the Music City Bowl. Memphis went 12-2 (7-1 American), dropping a 53-39 decision in Penn State in the Cotton Bowl. The game was the final contest in which now-Florida State coach Mike Norvell guided the Tigers.
