McNeese announces fall 2021 football schedule

By Kevin Kelley -

The McNeese Cowboys have announced their fall 2021 football schedule, which includes five games at home.

“This is an exciting time with the shape of the new Southland Conference and we’re excited to be playing football back in the fall,” said athletic director Heath Schroyer. “We’re looking forward to extending the nation’s longest fall season winning streak.”

McNeese opens the 2021 season with three straight non-conference games, beginning at home at Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, La., on Saturday, Sept. 4 against West Florida. The Cowboys then travel for back-to-back in-state contests at LSU on Sept. 11 and at Southern on Sept. 18.

Due to five teams departing the conference this season, the remaining Southland members will each play three in-season home-and-homes with fellow members and two other single games against the remaining teams.

Southland Conference action for McNeese begins on Sept. 25 on the road against UIW. Other road games include Northwestern State (Oct. 16),  Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 30), and Houston Baptist (Nov. 13).

McNeese will host Southland foes Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 2), UIW (Oct. 23), Nicholls (Nov. 6), and Northwestern State (Nov. 20).

“There’s a lot of excitement about Cowboy Football and rightfully so,” said Schroyer. “The spring season really helped us learn a lot about ourselves, play competitive teams and get ready for the first true football season under Coach Wilson. I couldn’t be more excited about the direction of Cowboy football and for the first kick-off.”
