Maryland Terrapins Release Non-Conference Football Schedule Through 2019

By Kevin Kelley -

The Washington Post has obtained the non-conference football schedule through the 2019 season for the Maryland Terrapins, which includes a home-and-home series vs. Syracuse in 2014 and 2019.

Maryland will travel to face Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 20, 2014. The Terrapins will then host the Orange at Byrd Stadium in College Park on Sept. 21, 2019.

The two schools will meet this season on Nov. 9, which will be their first and last match-up as conference opponents. Syracuse moved from the Big East to the ACC this season, while Maryland jumps to the Big Ten officially on July 1, 2014.

Other new games that were revealed for Maryland include a home game vs. Towson of the FCS on Sept. 9, 2017 and new dates for a home-and-home series vs. Temple.

Maryland will host Temple on Sept. 15, 2018 and then travel to face the Owls at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sept. 14, 2019. The Terps and Owls were previously scheduled to play their series in 2013 and 2014.

Dates were also revealed for previously announced games vs. West Virginia in 2014 (Sept. 13), Richmond in 2015 (Sept. 5), West Virginia in 2015 (Sept. 26), Howard in 2016 (Sept. 3), West Virginia in 2016 (Sept. 17), and West Virginia in 2017 (Sept. 23).

Maryland was previously slated to host UCF in 2016 and travel to Orlando in 2017, but that series appears to have been postponed due to the Terps joining the Big Ten.

I guess they never got the memo that the B1G was encouraging it’s members to no longer play FCS schools when the 9 game schedule was introduced

Unfortunately, they don’t have the money right now to make any payoffs to get out of those games.

I am sure Jim Delaney will see that they eliminate those schools to give the Big Ten overall better teams on the conferences OOC schedule, even if the BIg Ten has to buy out these games as they are looking at the playoffs and TV network $$. Would not be surprised to see this OOC schedule changed to accomodate BIg Ten’s requirements.

The Big has the $ to buy out these games at anytime, they may let some play out but I look for changes in OOC scheduling, or the schools will cancel the contracts and create better games with bigger schools.

According to ESPN radio when they talked to Jim Delaney recently prior to last weekend’s matchups he indicated he was going to advise Big schools to get out of these games even if the league had to buy them out and get compensated later from the schools so that the league would have very attractive scheduling once Big 10 network and playoffs get rolling. He is very opposed to these schools playing Big schools now that they have more leverage with the TV $ and want quality games to make the network lucrative $. Have to see how this plays out, the other shocker was when asked about expansion he indicated he had been in talks with 4 schools east of the Mississippi in great TV markets to add to the conference but would not elaborate on who, and also stated that when asked timetable he indicated sooner than later, several reports have circled that end of this year or early 14 will be another realignment carousel mess.

Other than soccer, women’s basketball, and lacrosse, this is going to be a tough move for MD.

We will compete in lacrosse and men’s ball. Wrestling won’t knock off Iowa & Penn St. or eveen Minn. But could keep up with michigans, ill., Wisconsin as new recruiting territory opens up. Volleyball could have a surge, too. Big 10 soccer is a joke and baseball not much better.

As for fb all our division is killer but overall will be middle of pack like in The ACC. Everyone will talk about osu and the Michigan’s but forget we’re 1-31 lifetime v. Penn state.
