Louisiana to play at Texas in 2021, cancels game at Arizona State

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will play at Texas in 2021 and have canceled their game at Arizona State that same season, FBSchedules.com has learned.

Louisiana was scheduled to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe on Sept. 4, 2021 and receive a $1.3 million guarantee for the game.

According to a copy of a letter obtained from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette via a state public records request, Louisiana and Arizona State have mutually agreed to cancel their contest. ASU will pay Louisiana $200,000 for the cancellation and the Ragin’ Cajuns will now play Texas as part of the agreement.

Additionally, Louisiana will play a men’s basketball game at Arizona State during the Fall of 2019 and will receive a $95,000 guarantee.

Louisiana will travel to play the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 4, 2021 at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. The Longhorns will pay the Ragin’ Cajuns a $1.5 million guarantee for the contest.

Louisiana and Texas have met twice on the gridiron. The Longhorns were victorious in both contests, 60-3 in 2005 and 52-10 in 2000.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have two other non-conference games scheduled for the 2021 season — a home contest against Ohio on Sept. 18 and a game at Liberty on Nov. 20.

Texas has now tentatively completed their 2021 non-conference schedule. The Longhorns are also slated to play at Arkansas on Sept. 11 and host Rice on Sept. 18.

Rice Date Change

Louisiana and Rice were scheduled to begin a home-and-home football series in Houston on Sept. 10, 2022. That contest has been pushed back one week to Sept. 17, 2022, per a copy of an amendment obtained from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Tulsa Date Change

Louisiana and Tulsa began a home-and-home series back in 2017 in Tulsa. The return game in Lafayette was scheduled for Sept. 28, 2019, but was pushed back five seasons to Sept. 28, 2024.

The date of the game in Lafayette has changed again, according to a copy of an amendment obtained from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The two schools will now meet in Lafayette on Sept. 9, 2028.

After looking at the new OOC schedules for Tulsa and Louisiana-Lafayette, I’m very curious to know why the 2024 game was moved to 2028.
